Boulder Brighton Inter Schools Competition 2024
We are delighted to be able to run an inter schools competition again this year. The qualifying round of the competition will run throughout the week starting 22nd January. This is a competition for secondary age pupils from years 7 to 13 and most appropriate from age 13 up as the blocs will be set with teenage climbers in mind.
Schools enter a team of 8 to 30 climbers with an ideal team being a team of 10 climbers. Each team must be from within one of the age categories – U16 or 16+ They book in for a climbing session at Boulder Brighton and have up to 2 hours to attempt the 25 competition blocs (for schools who come regularly this can be during the usual sessions booked by the schools). 2 hours is the maximum period allowed, if schools can only manage a session of 1 or 1.5hrs it will still be possible to enter the competition.
The competition will be a set of 25 blocs with 7 points for the bonus, 10 points for the top and an extra 2 points if it is topped first time (the flash). Schools will be ranked by the highest total score from any 8 of their entrants. There will be U16 and 16+ categories (age as of 1st September 2023). We will also have first, second and third place individual male, female and all gender results from the qualifiers.
It is £7 entry per person (includes climbing shoe hire). We will provide an instructor to supervise the competition climbing for up to 10 participants, any more than this will require an additional instructor at an extra £40 for each additional 10 participants.
Pre-booking is essential. We are running sessions every day at 09:30, 11:45, 14:00 and 15:30 with a maximum of two schools at any one session. If your school has a regular session at Boulder Brighton the competition can be completed during that session. The sessions will book up so please book in early.
The top 5 schools in each category (U16 and 16+) will qualify for a grand final taking place on Thursday 22nd February. U16 finals starting at 2pm, 16+ finals starting at 3pm. Schools should bring a team of 3 to the finals (and any supporters) and they will climb as a team under timed, judged conditions.
