New grading system!

Same great climbing, new tags and colours

Exciting news! After last month's experiment on the Comp Wall, we have decided to switch the whole centre to "off-piste" grading.

This means that instead of one hold colour (e.g. Red) always being used for a specific grade of climbing, these holds can now be used to create a climb of any grade we like.

We spend a lot of time trying to optimise the spread of grades in the centre, making sure that you always have a good number of climbs near your sweet spot, so our plan is that the underlying spread of grades in the centre shouldn't change.

But to work out which climb to try you will now need to look at the big black and white number tags at the top of the wall for a rough guide rather than hunt down your favourite colour. These tags give a broad Font grade - ie a "5" tag means it's 5A, 5B or 5C. The Toplogger app (@toplogger) will still show individual grades as usual if you want to track them down or suggest your own.

Should mean more hold variety for everyone to climb on, whatever your favourite grade, as well as scope for extra creativity for our routesetters. We've put the new tags up throughout the centre from today, and today's Comp Wall set is set with the new scheme. The other areas in the centre will be set "off-piste" style next time they come up in the setting rotation.
