Meet the rock stars of tomorrow

Over the past few years our youth squad has progressed hugely. In the first days most of the squad members were keen but inexperienced climbers, entering competitions for the first time. These days, Team BB is a force to be reckoned with on the local and national competition circuit, and we have seen members move on to the national GB squad! Our squad is of mixed ages with a focus on fun, commitment and potential for the future. Team members are expected to train twice a week with the squad as well as some additional independent training. We plan to have bouldering competition fixtures with other walls around the South East.

We are also proud to sponsor a couple of former youth squad members who have gone on to become successful competitors on the national stage, we're excited to see how far they can go.

Squad info

Training

The squad trains at 8am or 9am on a Saturday morning and at 4:30pm or 5:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Squad members would be expected to climb once more each week independently.

Competitions

The primary focus of the squad is to be the best possible youth bouldering team. We look to improve performance in indoor bouldering competitions and outdoor bouldering. The squad can enter the BMC Youth Open competitions and we will have competition fixtures against other climbing wall youth squads. There will also be outdoor bouldering trips to Dorset and the Peak district. The BB instructors organise and coach the team, but parents are still needed to help supervise the group on visits and trips.

Youth Squad costs and commitments

Youth Squad membership costs £55 per month and includes rolling monthly centre entry, a squad t-shirt, twice weekly coaching and support at competitions. Outdoor bouldering visits involve some extra cost. Ideally we are looking for squad members to climb three or more times each week, although care should be taken with the form of those sessions to avoid injury and we will advise on how to best approach them.
